Why Making Lists
Now that you have more than a few great ideas for lists, why should you make any lists at all? I’m glad you asked! Here are some of my favorite points that keep me coming back to a simple piece of paper and creating list after list.
They are a Relief for Your Brain
In his book Getting Things Done (some people call it “the Bible for getting organized”), David Allen says that our brains are for creating ideas, not for storing them.
Writing things down in the form of lists gives you the freedom of freely “browsing” for more ideas without having to remember the ones you’ve already come up with.

They Help You Reflect on Yourself
Sticking to just a few of the list ideas I’ve mentioned in this post (such as “list of accomplishments” and “list of why you love each one of your body parts”), making lists can be incredibly helpful for self-reflection and personal development.
Lists make you focus on a topic, and when that topic is You, it’s easier to reflect on your personal growth, strengths, and areas that require some extra work.
They Boost Your Creativity
Fun and creative lists encourage your imagination to work harder, and we know that a muscle that gets exercised grows. Coming up with creative lists helps you be even more creative. It’s like a loop but a beneficial one.
They Get You Inspired
Many lists you will make can be a huge source of inspiration. Here are a few ideas: comforting self-care rituals, food to taste or cook, a list of gift ideas for people, and so on.
They Keep You Organized
Finally, the one you cannot escape: lists keep you organized. They are like creating real-life drawers of ideas, favorite points, inspirations, to-do lists, and go-to information you can access without the fear of losing it.
