Nourishing Ideas For When You Wonder What To Put In a Self-Care Basket
No matter if you’re looking for relaxation basket ideas, birthday gift for self or prepare a feel better kit for a friend, the situation is always the same: Amazing idea, but what to put in a self-care basket?
Should you stick to tea/mug/socks classic self-care box?
What if you experiment with something WOW and then feel like you’ve wasted time and money? What if they don’t like it?
Today, I am laying in front of you more than a few oh-so-good self-care basket DIY ideas.
They all have the same goal: to make you (or whoever will receive the self-care gift box) smile, feel better and most of all – take a few moments actually to practice self-care in a better and more intentional way.

What Do You Fill a Basket With?

Firstly: LOVE
Secondly: CARE
Everything else comes after those things.
Whatever you decide to place into the self-care box, you want it to be thoughtful and personal. And yes, that means if you are crafting your own mental health gift basket, you should be mindful of what makes you feel good (why not pamper yourself with some goodies, too?).
When putting together a self-care box, I would nourish three things in the person who receives it: mind, body, and soul.
Let’s see which products would fit those categories.
What To Put In a Self-Care Basket? | Nourish The Mind
You might think it’s hard to come up with many different items that nourish the mind.
I am here to prove you have plenty of choices, and they are all affordable, gentle, and a perfect fit for your self-care basket.
Books
A book has always been (and will be) one of the ultimate ways to relax the mind. There was a beautiful quote written on the bookmark of a book I received recently:
“A book is a dream you hold in your hands”
Gift that dream. It might be exactly the dream someone needs in their life.
What type of book should you put in a self-care basket? It truly depends on the person who will receive the basket. Most likely, you want to go for a genre that will uplift them, hook them or simply inspire them.

Journal
Just a simple journal like this one on Etsy could inspire your friend to de-clutter their mind and that’s self-care in action.
Why not gift them with this Happiness Journal that you could print for them? It will be the highlight of their morning and evening routine and push them to reflect and plan their self-care more intentionally.
Coloring Book
Coloring books are by far one of the most popular ways to de-stress and relax one’s mind. There are thousands of options out there: printable coloring pages or delivered-to-your-door coloring books.
Bonus tip: Not sure if they will enjoy coloring? They will, but just in case, add a pack of crayons in the basket, so they start coloring right after you leave their place.
Books of Jokes
Laugh is the best way to treat absolutely everything: bad mood, depression, anxiety, bad start of the day, loneliness, and more.
Getting your friend a book with jokes will keep their spirit up and their face brighter for many days ahead. Plus, you will get to hear them all eventually.
Movies
Is gifting each other CDs with favorite movies silly and pointless?
Maybe!
But you could still get the experience of watching movies by subscribing your friend to Amazon Prime Video or Netflix. It’s up to them if they will keep the subscription after the gifted period is gone.
Playlists
Yes, you could create a playlist on Spotify for them and then include the list of songs in a simple printable for them with a cute message from you. That’s very personal and heart-warming, and now they have someone to think of when listening to the songs.
Mental Health Journal
This is a different type of journal. It will help them stay conscious of the way they look after their mental health.
We all know self-care is important, yet unless we get that daily reminder to do it, we most likely end up tired in the bed thinking, “Oh, I didn’t do anything for myself today either…”
Nourish the Body | What To Put In a Self-Care Basket
Now that you chose how to nourish the mind, it’s time to add something that nourishes the body.
Here are a few good ideas to get you started:
Something Funny
What I love the most about us, humans is our ability to laugh at absolutely everything we don’t like or disagree with.
Of course, that’s a matter of choice, but you will always feel better if while drinking your morning coffee you glance of the following quotes printed on the cup:
- Wears Black, Loves Coffee, Avoids People.
- A Fun Thing To Do In The Morning Is Not Talk To Me
- Here’s To Another Day of Outward Smiles and Inward Screams
- Sorry, It’s Just That I Literally Don’t Care. Like, At All
- It’s OK, I’m on 500mg of FUKITOL
Of course, those will make them laugh.
Something Fuzzy
Self-care always comes to mind as something fuzzy and cozy, huggable (is that a word?), and simple heart-warming. Here are a few ideas for you:
- Fuzzy slipper gripper socks that would be a great addition to a winter or autumn self-care basket.
- Bear Slippers like these are the fluffiest of the fuffy options on this list.
- What about a hand-knitted chunky throw blanket like this one?
- A soft scarf that will keep the cozy experience going all winter
Something With a Pleasant Aroma
Yes, you guessed it, any self-care kit should have at least one thing that smells gorgeous. Still, wondering what to put in a self-care basket? Here are a few gentle and sweet aroma options:
- Spiritual Goddess Candle
- Peppermint or Valencia Orange candles with pure essential oils
- Cinnamon scented candle that speaks to the soul
- Bath bombs – organic and gorgeous smelling bath bombs that will create a different experience next time your friend takes a bath.
Something To Use On Their Body
- A gorgeous hand cream that will keep their hands soft and protected;
- Tea Tree Oil Foot Cream to hydrate and moisturize tired feet;
- Hawaiian body cream to moisturize the skin.
- This foam roller for exceptional massage of all stiff muscles in the body.
Nourish The Mind | What to Put In a Self-Care Basket
That would probably be my favorite section of all three. I have so many ideas of how to nourish the mind, and I do most of them. Most likely, if I have a bad mental health day, I reach for one of these, so you can trust me, you need at least a few in your self-care gift basket.
- Loose Leaf Tea – as simple as it sounds, this tea will wake up senses in a gentle and nourishing way.
- Coffee, especially if it’s manually ground and then brewed. The smell is heavenly good and brings an instant smile and calmness (can you tell I need a coffee while writing this?).
- Chocolate – Yes, nourishing the soul is waking up all the senses, and chocolate delivers on most of them.
- Meditation disc – This disc is with meditations by Dr. Joe Dispensa, and we all know he is one of the best in mind re-programming.
- Affirmation cards – done for you and ready to guide one’s soul to a more self-loving and self-caring mindset.
- Tarot For Self-Care – if your friend is curious about learning and using Tarot cards, they will enjoy these Tarot cards for self-care too.
- Essential oil of your choice – yes, those truly feeds the soul with aroma, relieve stress, and relax the mind, body, and soul.
And there you have them: all things that nourish the mind, body, and soul. The perfect way to answer your question on what to put in a self-care basket.
