Summer Morning Routine Ideas
These are smart season-specific ways to enjoy summer, regardless of whether you’re on a holiday or you need to dress and catch the bus to go to work.

1. Wake up with Natural Light
Go to sleep at a reasonable time so you can wake up naturally in the morning. One of my favorite things about summer is how long we can enjoy the daylight. Allowing your body to wake up to the morning light naturally makes you feel relaxed and fresh, ready to tackle the day.
Pro tip: Leave your curtains open so that once the sun is out, it can reach your sleepy eyes quickly and wake you up.
2. Freshen up with Citrus
No, I’m not talking about enjoying a citrusy drink (although that’s a brilliant idea, thanks!). When I say “freshen up,” I mean taking a morning shower and using citrus-scented body and face wash. It will wake you up and make you feel on top of the day.

3. Hydrate with Infused Water
Slices of cucumber, lemon, or a few berries with a mint leaf can elevate your morning faster than you can say “summer vibes”. The extra flavor is just a bonus because fruits in the water are actually healthy.
4. Cold Shower
Alright, this is for the sleepy beauties: nothing, and I mean, NOTHING else, can wake you up faster than a cold-ish shower on a summer morning. Your eyes will almost pop out from the shock, but it’s worth it! Cold showers help reduce inflammation, improve blood circulation, lower stress levels, and reduce fatigue.

5. Light Breakfast
There are mornings when having bacon and eggs sounds like a dream… and there are mornings when the idea of staying over the frying pan for even 3 minutes is the closest thing to a nightmare you can think of.
So, instead of making a hearty breakfast, opt for something more.. summery, like overnight oats with tons of delicious toppings.
6. Outdoor Exercise
How else would you say you make the most of the season if you don’t spend time outdoors any chance you’ve got?
Instead of exercising in your gloomy living room, go in the garden for a morning stretch or go on a morning walk around the neighborhood.
7. Wear Bright Colors
I think this is something we all do in the summertime, but I need to put it here: pajamas, morning robes, slippers, dresses – everything has to be bright and summery so you feel like a character in a French boogie movie.

8. Use a Light Moisturizer
Your skin needs different routines every season. Wintertime comes with heavier creams and more protection. It is okay to have more on your face when it’s cold outside.
Summertime is the opposite. You want to use lighter and fewer products so your skin can breathe easily and have fewer breakouts.
9. Sunscreen
This is a no-brainer, but I just had to put it here, you know! Choose your sunscreen based on your skin tone and sensitivity. At the beginning of the summer, you need a higher SPF factor than at the end of it.
10. Summer Playlist
While enjoying your ultra-special summer morning routine, don’t forget to set the vibes with the summer playlist of your dreams. Create it yourself, so you only include songs that make your heart sing and your feet move in weird taps and jumps. Dance! Enjoy!
11. Fruit Smoothie
Smoothies are the perfect way to celebrate the early hours of a summer day. You can even replace your breakfast with a big smoothie bowl.

12. Cold Brew Coffee
We all can easily recall those days when we just know, from the morning, that the heat is going to be scorching and unbearable. Well, on those days, treat yourself to a cold brew coffee. Add ice to it, and you’ve got yourself the perfect wake-up drink in the summer edition.
13. Garden Time
If you’re lucky enough to have a garden, do not think twice about spending your mornings out there. Just grab that cold brew coffee and a book and sit in a chair for at least 5-10 minutes.
14. Refreshing Face Mist
Cold, refreshing face mist is so soothing and relaxing in the middle of a heatwave. Keep a bottle of your favorite face mist in the rooms where you usually spend your mornings so you can quickly spray it on your face when you need it.
15. Aroma Diffuser
Remember my advice about the citrus smell on a summer morning? Your aroma diffuser can replicate that heavenly goodness in your home. Start your day by turning that tiny machine on and giving it a few drops of your favorite fruity essential oil.

16. Summer Scents
We continue with the scent theme. Here is a list of the scents that are most associated with summer, plus the perfumes that give you that smell:
- Tangerine – Acqua di Gio by Armani
- Strawberries – Burberry Her by Burberry
- Bergamot – Neroli Portofino by Tom Ford
- Lime – Lime, Basil & Mandarin by Jo Malone London
- Orange Blossom – Black Opium by YSL
- Pomegranate –Euphoria by Calving Klein
17. Read Outside
Grab your favorite book and sit in the garden or by the window of your bedroom to read for 10-15 minutes. Yes, you need to go to work, I know! But these 10 minutes of reading under the morning sun will feed your soul for the rest of the day. I promise!
18. Meditate Outdoors
No, you don’t have to hum or concentrate on your breathing to call it meditation. You can also listen to the sounds around you, the morning songs of the birds, the light breeze, and the noises from the houses around. Meditating is about being present in the moment and soaking the world around you right here and right now.
19. Go for a Morning Swim
I can’t swim! There, I said it! But I bet a morning swim session is the perfect way to energize yourself on a scorching summer morning. So, if you can, go swimming at least twice a week this summer.

20. Frozen Yogurt Treat
Frozen yogurt with different fruit toppings is just the perfect way to start a summer day, especially if you’re already craving all ice creams in the world. Frozen yogurt is a much healthier option.
21. Morning Bike Ride
Bike to work if you can. Do you work too far away? Go on a morning bike ride around the neighborhood or the nearby park. Use the fresh summer mornings for exercise because you know the summer afternoons can be very discouraging when it comes to moving your body.
22. Herbal Teas
Who says teas are for winter only? Almost any herbal tea can be enjoyed very much in summertime. You can have it warm or add ice to it, and there you go – iced tea is ready in a few seconds.
23. Outdoor Yoga
In many bigger cities, yoga classes are held outdoors on the weekends. Browse the web for your local yoga clubs and see when their next outdoor session is.

24. Barefoot Walk
Take off your slippers and flip-flops. Feel the grass between your toes; let it tickle your heels. Connect with nature. It’s a beautiful experience, especially on a summer morning.
25. Sun Salutations
Sun Salutations are a special sequence of yoga poses that look like a gentle flow. The meaning behind the sun salutations is just what you think – welcoming the day, calling on the sun. It is said that when you do these salutations, even if you are inside, you need to turn yourself towards the sun.
26. Go for a Light Makeup Routine
I mentioned above that your skincare routine is different every season. The same applies to the makeup routine. Light makeup for the warm and sweaty summer days is bliss for your skin. See below a TikTok video featuring an easy summer makeup routine.
27. Summer Journal
Write in your journal every morning. To make it more summer-friendly, ask yourself what you’d like to experience on that day, write your daily affirmation, and write season-specific gratitudes.

28. Enjoy a Summer Smoothie Bowl
Smoothie bowls are just as special as the usual smoothies, but they may be a bit thicker, and you can have some extra toppings such as nuts and whole fruits. See a few smoothie bowl recipes right here.
29. Use Essential Oil Roll-Ons
Yes, they exist, and you can actually choose one with the same base scent as your perfume and shower gel, so you’ve got that continuity of the fragrance on your body. That’s the secret to smelling heavenly good the whole day.
30. Prep Frozen Fruit Snacks
Want a cool summer morning routine idea? Grab some frozen grapes or berries and enjoy them early in the morning, just after your breakfast. You can thank me later.
