The Perfect, Most Cozy Fall Morning Routine To Have

It only makes sense to have a fall morning routine because your body’s needs change with every season… Here’s how!

Our bodies function in cycles affected by the Sun, the Moon, and the day-to-night change. We feel sleepy at night and active throughout the day.

Well, it is precisely the same with the seasons.

We are “reborn” and ready for growth and an active lifestyle in spring. We thrive in summertime, indulging in everything the world has to offer. We “cool down” when fall arrives. There is a dip in our energy, and we crave more time inside, slow walks, and warm beverages. Once winter arrives, we can “hibernate” through the cold season, piling up some healthy (or not) weight and waiting for spring to come to do that all over again.

And no, this isn’t something I came up with; it is actually proven by scientists (in this research on how our needs change throughout the seasons)

So, today, I share with you a fall time routine that will give you an overview of how and why you will thrive better if you start your autumn days slowly and mindfully

Fall Morning Routine Ideas

I must admit that I started liking and even loving fall time just a few years ago. I’ve always been a summertime fan, but crunchy leaves, hygge aesthetics, and that lovely autumn color palette around me become my favorite.

So here are a few fall-time morning habits that will cover your basic morning needs and honor the season.

Wake-Up Later

I am a huge supporter of the 5 a.m. club. However… I begin to notice that my body craves an extra hour of sleep in the morning, and because I work from home and am able to adjust my work life however I wish, I have pushed my wake-up time to one hour later than usual – 6 a.m.

Waking up early enough to have time for yourself is crucial for your physical and mental health. If you can’t adjust your wake-up time, do that with your going-to-sleep time. Get an hour of extra sleep once the leaves start to fall out there. Your body needs it.

Wake-Up Your Body Gently

If most people would say that hitting the gym first thing in the morning is the healthiest thing ever, I would add that it is also seriously stressful if you aren’t the super-active type of person and used to that lifestyle. I mean, I admire The Rock for weightlifting before dawn every morning, but you can never convince me that this regime is good for everyone, no exception.

The perfect fall morning routine asks for gentle and nourishing waking up of your mind and body. You can hit the gym later as many times as you wish. The season’s magic comes with a certain slowness you will undoubtedly feel in your body. Your steps might be a bit heavier; you drag yourself out of bed a bit harder than in summertime.

It’s okay!

Take your time. Do yoga, pilates, or stretch while listening to autumn ambiance music. Go for a walk if you’re in the mood (or have a dog, like me). Wake up and stretch your muscles, but be gentle with yourself.

Wake-Up Your Mind

Now that your body is fully awake and ready for the day do the same with your mind. At falltime, you might feel a bit drowsy; your brain resists trying to wake it up, and that’s normal. Here are my favorite ways to nudge it to get up and start functioning:

  • Ten minutes learning a new language – I am learning a new language right now, and 10 minutes in the morning is enough to cover a few words and wake up my brain.
  •  Journal – there are countless benefits of journaling first thing every morning, and you must try it as soon as possible. Here’s a 21-day challenge for complete beginners in journaling.
  •  Read – if those two suggestions above aren’t attractive enough, try reading something inspiring and uplifting.

Self-Care Moments

Essentially, everything you did so far is considered self-care – you got enough sleep, and you woke up your body and mind. But what if you could push things even further?

How about leafing through the pages of this FallTime Self-Care journal and choosing one activity, quote, or page to fill? That would take your self-care moments to another level. Yes, I’ve created it, and I’m so proud of it because it is as nurturing, gentle, and with attention to the details as I imagined it. It has EVERYTHING fall-time self-care would need, including a 30-day challenge to honor the season. See what’s inside at my Etsy Shop here.

Say Affirmations

Say them out loud, write them in your journal, or repeat them silently while preparing for work.

Affirmations are a gentle way to avoid negative self-talk or whining about the day ahead (especially if you don’t enjoy your job).

Wake-Up Your Belly

Start your day with a glass of water, and be sure it isn’t cold and has no ice. I’m unsure who started that trend, but cold water first thing in the morning ruins your digestion.

Instead, make it lukewarm or have it at room temperature. It gently wakes your stomach, preparing it for the train of healthy and unhealthy food that will arrive randomly throughout the day (you know I’m right).

Then, prepare yourself a healthy breakfast. Here are a few quick ideas that take no more than 5 minutes of preparation:

Dress For The Season

One fail-proof way to recognize that it is autumn is by the cozy color palette in the shops. Earthy, warm colors, soft knitted fabrics, and thick textures make you dream of fireplaces and mountain cabins.

Make sure your falltime wardrobe answers your soul’s cravings for this season. Dress up warm and cozy, be sure to have a scar with you, in case it gets windy, and enjoy every fabric that speaks hygge to you.

Now you have it all – a fall morning routine for bringing coziness, warmth, and mindfulness into your windy days. Make sure you get your hands on that FallTime Self-Care Journal and honor your body’s needs throughout the season.
