I’ve noticed that if I tell myself at least one powerful morning affirmation, there is a huge chance for my day to be productive. Hence, I feel like I have my life together, and that’s always inspiring.
Therefore, I felt the need to keep around a pile of inspiring morning affirmations for a good day. Today, I share that pile with you.
But before you go on and choose your perfect affirmation for a perfect day, let’s answer some important questions. Check the table of contents below for better navigation on this post.
What are affirmations?
Affirmations are simple sentences with powerful meaning that are created with the intention of affirming something. They could be positive such as “I am loved.” or negative such as “I’m a failure.”
Yes, you guessed it right, we always tell ourselves affirmations, and our beliefs feed them. If every morning, after you wake up, you tell yourself, “Oh, I am so tired… I hate this job…I can’t wait for the week to finish…” you affirm a negative experience throughout the day. Your brain will automatically search for proof your day isn’t good at all.
However, if you start your day with a positive thought/affirmation such as “I am so excited for today… I can’t wait to finish the project… This week is going great…” chances are you will approach the day feeling happy and enthusiastic.
Affirmations work on the inside, but we see the results on the outside. With that said and knowing that you use affirmations daily (no matter if you are aware of it), wouldn’t you agree that it’s better to have control over the affirmations you repeat in your mind?
Beliefs and Limiting Beliefs | How They Affect Your Life

It would be too easy to tell you just to repeat a positive affirmation until it sticks in your brain. However, that’s not how affirmations work at all. Why? Because of your beliefs.
Affirmations work only if you actually believe in what you say and you agree it’s possible to become your reality. How do you do that? Through your beliefs.
Beliefs are like “internal commands” our brain receives and based on those commands, we interact with/ react to whatever Is happening in our life. (Source)
Beliefs are usually formed throughout our childhood and all of the events in it, including conversations we’ve had or overheard, things we were told, and experiences we’ve had. Once we enter adulthood, we are less likely to change our beliefs and more likely to stick to the ones we’ve built when we were children.
It isn’t a secret that we call them limiting beliefs, but it takes a while to accept that the limitation is an invisible wall we’ve built ourselves.
Yet, changing your limiting beliefs is possible, and once you truly understand that, opportunities and excitement enter your world.
Example of How Beliefs are Created
It’s scientifically proven that beliefs are controlled by emotions created in the past in a specific situation. Here’s an example.
Let’s say that when you were a child you were going with your mom to eat cake every Sunday. It was just the two of you; your mom was asking you questions, you were laughing a lot, having a good time, and bonding. At some point, your brain started associating cake with having a good time. Years later, the moment you’d see or eat a piece of cake, you’d immediately feel good and at peace with yourself. Cake = good and positive emotions.
Another few years later, you’d reach for cake every time you need to better your mood. You followed your inner belief that cake is good… until you started gaining weight. Slowly, you will introduce “guilt” into your life, and even if you’d wish to have a piece of cake (because it will fix your mood), you would feel guilty for having it (because you’ve gained weight although it might have little to do with cake). The guilt would creep into your life more and more until you basically give up on eating cake (or rarely do it). You’ve changed your beliefs.
Before, cake represented peace, happiness, love. Later on, it represented guilt, stress, and self-hatred.
How Do You Change Your Beliefs?

Okay, we know how beliefs work, and they work both ways. Something positive could turn into something negative, but the best part is that something negative could be transformed into a positive belief. Here’s how.
In the example from above, the first thing that changed the positive belief for “cake” was the idea that you (or the character in the story) started associating weight problems and negative self-image with eating cake. It all started with the thought of overweight that caused the emotion of guilt, and the latter changed the belief.
I will make it even more obvious:
Thought/Memory/Experience -> Emotion/Feelings -> Belief -> Behaviour
I am not good at math, but I think it’s obvious it all starts with our thoughts/memories/experiences.
And this is when affirmations enter the room. The positive thought will create a positive emotion that will change the belief and dictate the (positive) behavior.
How do you start the day with positive affirmations?
After we closed the circle of how affirmations could affect us, it’s time to talk over the ways to introduce positive affirmations into your life in a way that will trigger the emotions, change the beliefs and improve your behavior.
1. Say them out loud

It is recommended to say the affirmations out loud. It motivates you and for many people hearing something (even if it’s their own voice) makes things “real”.
Some people even talk of the positive energy and vibration created once you say an affirmation aloud.
While this all might be true, I know that it doesn’t work for everyone because it doesn’t work for me.
2. Write them down
This works the best for me. I am a writer, and everything that spins inside my head has to find its home on a piece of paper (or a Word document on the computer). I write my affirmations in my Happiness Journal.
3. Repeat them while doing something boring

Whether you say them out loud or silently in your head, using the boring 12 minutes while washing the dishes to repeat affirmations is a great way to re-program yourself.
4. Give them special spot in your routine
Include them in your morning or evening routine, give them a few minutes of focused attention during your lunch break or squeeze them in as a snack-time at 10 a.m. every day. Regardless of what you choose, give affirmations a special spot in your life. It will be worth it.
