Here’s a news for you: Being satisfied with your job isn’t just about the job itself. It’s also about your approach to it.
There I said it!
Too many people look outside themselves when it comes to not being successful in what they do. And that is so wrong!
I’ve worked in so many places – both good and bad, and I’ve always (yes, always) done my best with the position I had, and I was always (yes, always) one of the best in the company.
I was selling coffee on the market and had queues of people because of the combination of coffee taste and good morning small chat. I was working in a bank and got to deal with the VIPs in every branch I’d be sent. Later, I got promoted to bank office manager and was in that place for five years. I worked in a warehouse and was offered to sit behind a desk and work in a higher position. I worked in a hotel’s reception and was mentioned as a future front-desk manager (I quit to focus on my first blog).
No, I am not bragging about my successes. None of those are unachievable by anyone else.
And it wasn’t about trying to prove myself or aiming to grow and get promotions. It was about mindset and knowing that if I am to work on something, I will do it to the best of my abilities… and my abilities were something I could continuously improve.
The secret to my success at all my previous jobs?

Positive work habits!
Positive work habits are essential for anyone who wants to have a successful career. But what are the habits that can make us successful at work?
Regardless if you work from home or the office, here are 22 positive work habits that you might want to consider incorporating into your daily routine.
Effective Work Habits That Will Make You The Star of The Company

On a side note, before I introduce you to all the habits below, keep in mind that I am a business owner now too. I’ve got just a few people working with me, but I can easily see when an employee has a chance to climb the lather and when they shouldn’t expect anything more than what they get now because of the way they approach their working days.
On to the habits!
1. Being punctual
If you want to make a good impression, you should strive always to be punctual. Don’t be late for meetings. In fact, make sure you’re there earlier. That way, you can also prepare mentally for it.
2. Respecting deadlines
This is arguably the most critical positive work habit you should learn. It makes you look professional, and it shows that you respect the organization you work for. This will make your managers trust you more.
3. Being proactive
If you’re starting with something you have no idea how to do, try to be proactive. Don’t stand there waiting to receive guidelines on something you might be able to find out yourself. If you have access to manuals, databases, or even simply Google, you can find 70% of the information you need. If there are still some things you need help with – don’t be afraid to ask.
4. Taking initiative
Taking the initiative shows your motivation for improvement. It’s especially important when you want to climb up the corporate stairs. If there’s an extra task and you have time for it, be the first to take it on. If you think something needs to be changed within a process, take the initiative to suggest points of improvement. Even if you’re self-employed, always search for ways to develop.
5. Asking questions
It’s important to understand that asking questions isn’t a sign of weakness. Exactly the opposite. It means you’re responsible enough to set the record straight before proceeding further. Also, if there’s one thing you should learn, it’s how to ask intelligent questions. This way, you will demonstrate your worth at work.
6. Admitting mistakes
Admitting that you’ve made a mistake will make you seem more reliable. Everyone makes mistakes but owning up to them will help you learn how to handle and avoid similar situations. And don’t forget to apologize, but only once—there’s no reason to dwell on the error.
Success at Work and You – Developing Good Work Habits

7. Communicating effectively
Excellent communication skills are a valuable attribute. You should know how to engage in meetings, report assignments, and choosing the right time to express your opinion. These practical skills leave a remarkable impression and should definitely be on your list with good work habits.
8. Taking constructive feedback
Becoming a better employee usually involves giving constructive criticism. But it’s equally important to be able to take this kind of feedback. You should be open and receptive when people are trying to help you do your best.
9. Being organized
I can’t stress this enough! Time management is probably the most essential work habit. You can’t be a high performer if you’re not organized.
Find out what works best for you. Is it a digital calendar or an online time management tool? Or maybe you prefer to write things down on paper? In any case, try to be as organized as possible if you want to succeed.
10. Being dependable
People need to know that they can depend on you. Being the person that the boss can count on will help you reap the benefits of it. Be prepared, be on time, and demonstrate dependability.
11. Offering help
Remember that work isn’t always about competition. Especially if you work within a team, you should learn how to help each other. Sometimes people are afraid to ask for help. That doesn’t mean they don’t need it. If you notice that any of your coworkers are struggling, try to offer your support.
Best Positive Work Habits To Have

12. Always doing your best
I don’t think I have to elaborate much on this one. Always give 100%, and the outcomes will follow shortly.
13. Being kind and understanding
When you work with people, you need to know how to value and notice how they feel. Simply being kind to your coworkers will contribute to a more positive work environment.
14. Having a good work-life balance
You can’t perform well at work if you don’t know how to balance the time between your personal and professional life. You risk burning out and feeling overall dissatisfied. Learn how to achieve harmony, and you’ll see that it makes a world of difference.
15. Keeping personal problems away
Avoid talking about your personal life in detail with your coworkers. This might influence how confident your supervisor and coworkers are in your ability to do a job. Try to keep it as professional as possible.
16. Listening actively
Being a good listener is a soft skill that any successful professional possess. Listen actively, absorb all the information that you need, and don’t interrupt. If you listen carefully, you won’t have to ask questions at the end.
17. Not procrastinating
Leaving things for the last minute is never a good idea. Putting off your work won’t make it go away. It usually makes it even worse. So you might as well get it over with. Learn to do things on time and stop procrastinating.

18. Allowing extra time for everything
Sometimes you underestimate a task, and you need more time to complete it correctly. That’s why you should always plan spare time for your assignments. What’s the worst that could happen? Having a few minutes off? That doesn’t sound so bad.
19. Being prepared for failure
Now I’m not saying you should constantly think about how you’re going to fail. Exactly the opposite – be prepared to do so. You’re not perfect, and things won’t always go well. But usually, your reaction to them is more important than (and sometimes even determines) the outcome.
20. Looking at problems as opportunities
Problems aren’t always challenges. They might as well be opportunities. So shift your mindset and look at things from the positive side. After all, solving problems gives you the chance to showcase your strengths.
21. Proofreading your work
Never deliver work right after you wrote it. It may take a little longer, but it’s much better to catch your errors before anyone else does. Here’s my advice – sleep on it. Take a look at it again the next day when your head is fresh. The final result will be much more positive.
22. Preparing for the next day
Many people start planning their day once they sit on their desks in the morning. But to be more effective, I suggest preparing for the day ahead when you finish work on the previous day. By doing that, you’ll have less time to stress about things you’re not prepared for, and you can start with your tasks right away.
Conclusion For Being Your best at Work
Gone are the days where we all had to choose one workplace and stick to it for the rest of our lives. We live in times when having two or three freelance jobs and a full-time job is something normal. We are flexible and are more honest with our bosses (and employees) than ever before. If you aren’t happy where you are, you must also consider changing your job, especially if you practice all (yes, all) of the habits above and get no recognition from your managers.
However, just because we can change jobs more often than the oil in our cars, it doesn’t mean we can also completely ignore the value of the work we do. In fact, doing our job good or bad affects mainly us. And it’s not about our next position or recommendations. It’s about building a mindset that no matter what we do, we will do it the best we can, or we wouldn’t do it at all. Now, that’s a mindset that takes up the lather as high as you wish.
