Many people aren’t taught how to believe in themselves, but some were actually told they shouldn’t believe in themselves, and I was one of them.
I cannot count exactly how many times my stepmom was telling me, “You worth nothing!” or “You will become nothing!” but I still hear her voice in my head, and it’s been 20 years since I saw her for the last time.
When you just enter puberty, and your emotions are taking a rollercoaster ride the moment you open your eyes, having a stepmom who hates you is just the cherry on the top of a cake you don’t want to eat.
Twenty years have passed, and I have a successful business, a loving partner, and trust that I can do absolutely anything as long as I put my mind to it.
Was it easy? Heck no!
Was it worth it? You bet!
You’ve heard the phrase “If you believe in yourself, everything is possible!” and you believe in that phrase… but not in yourself.
How to twist your mind and trick it into believing that who you are is enough and what you do is the best you can do?
I will share my tips, the ones that took me from “You worth nothing!” to “I can do it/have it if I want to!”

“Everything seems impossible until it’s done”
I guess this would be one of the posts where I share one quote after another and contemplate on them, but this specific quote by Albert Einstein stays proudly on the desktop of my computer for years.
It reminds me that once people thought flying was impossible for humans until the Wright brothers proved the opposite in December 1903.
Just in 2019, Sarah Thomas (a breast cancer survivor) was the first woman to swim across the English Channel four times non-stop!
In 1978 Reinhold Messner was the first man to climb Everest without extra oxygen, and Randy Gardner, a 17-year-old student, managed to stay awake for 11 days and 25 minutes in 1964.
Now, just after you read all these examples, I would like to ask you this: Do you think that believing in yourself is more challenging than staying awake for 11 days or climbing Everest?
I know, to do all those things, you have to believe in yourself first, and I am not encouraging you to run towards the English Channel on your lunch break… However, I am asking you to open your mind to all of the possibilities in front of you.
Especially for the one to start believing that you are worth it and you can do it (whatever is on your mind, you can do it).

“Don’t let someone else’s opinion of you become your reality”
Les Brown (the author of the quote above) is one of the most inspiring personal development gurus you could ever stumble upon, and if you need extra proof of that, just check one of his iconic speeches from 1996 in Atlanta.
One of the most valuable lessons you can ever learn is that what other people think of you is what they see through their own eyes and process through the lens of their own experiences. It is their reality and not yours, and that makes everything different.
Regardless of how someone was brought up, they will constantly measure your ability to do something through their ability to do that thing. And if they think they can’t do it, the only possible assumption is that you can’t either.
That opinion is valid only if you believe in it more than you believe in yourself.

“Just because you couldn’t do it yesterday doesn’t mean you can’t do it today”
This quote by Robin Sharma is the one I encourage everyone to write on a big piece of paper and stick on the wall next to their bed.
Just think about it… When you were 4-year-old, you couldn’t tie your shoelaces, but a year later, you probably knew how to do it.
When you were 15-years-old, you didn’t know how to drive a car, but today you most likely use a car daily.
And on your first day at your workplace, you had no clue how to do your job properly. Yet, today chances are you can even train the new employees.
Your life is an example of how you can learn to do so many different things even if you had zero knowledge and experience prior. Why ignore the facts in front of you?
The same goes for absolutely everything around you – it is not that “you can’t” do something but “you didn’t find the way yet”, and that makes a huge difference.

“No one else can live your life for you. No one else can succeed for you!”
The quote above is from one of my all-time favorite books, The Greatest Salesman In The World by Og Mandino. It was the first-ever book to read on self-development, and it was one of the few I keep going back to over and over again.
It was the book that gave me the words to fight my stepmother’s negative influence and make me question her opinion of me (which had become my reality).
Often, we refuse to take responsibility for the bad that happens in our lives, for our failures and mistakes. But what’s truly shocking is that many people refuse to take responsibility for their success as well.
And it’s not about the success that already happened, but the one that is about to happen. People wait for “luck“, “right moment,” and “a mentor” to do something for themselves and by themselves.
Yet, the days go by, and life goes on whether we like it or not. Seizing the days isn’t someone else’s job, so shake the fears off and go live your life.

Inside Of My Happiness Journal
Inside Of My Happiness | Journal for Living an Intentional Life
Scared of journaling?
Journaling has so many benefits, and you've always wanted to stick to it but never did. It looks and sounds complicated. You think that there are some rules you know nothing of and can't see the magic everyone talks of.
Inside of My Happiness is your go-to journal for the morning and the evening. Get inspired in the mornings, reflect on yourself in the evening. As simple as that.
“Never feel shame for trying and failing for he who has never failed is he who has never tried”
Same author, same book.
It is all about the fears, isn’t it? It is all about the fear of doing or not doing something that stops us from believing in ourselves and going after what we want.
Taking action steps becomes harder only after we tell ourselves, “What if I fail?”
It reminds me of a story (I do not know if it’s real) about a philosophy student who went on his final exam. On the top of his exam papers was written one word only: Why?
The student looked at his colleagues and noticed them hustling and writing page after page of explanations, putting their knowledge on the paper. The first 15 minutes of the exam went by, and he still had nothing. Then, he wrote one sentence below the first one and gave the papers in. He was picked to be the top best result from his class. What did he write?
“Why not?”
What if you don’t fail? What if you fail but learn a lesson? What if you fail and try again and again? What if you don’t sabotage yourself? What if you aren’t afraid? What if you don’t fail?
Why? Why not?
Journal on this: What is the worst that could happen if I try?
Instead of Conclusion
I am far from the idea that reading one simple post on the internet is enough to start believing in yourself. However, I know that a beach is just a bunch of tiny sand grains, the ocean is made out of tiny drops, and your life represents small daily action steps. And if this post was inspiring to you, it is a positive action step.
The last piece of advice I will give you is the power of choice, and the last quote is by Henry Ford: “Whether you think you can or you think you can’t… you are right.”
What is it going to be?
