Make Happiness a Habit You Can’t Unfollow
It doesn’t matter how many lifestyles you follow and unfollow over the years…
Forget about the habits you track, develop and quit…
The main mission behind each one of those steps you take is just one and sums up with one word only – happiness.
On top of that, now you wish to know how to make happiness a habit.
And is it happiness a habit at all?
How To Find Happiness?
If you woke up with that question in your mind this morning, you aren’t alone. The core reason to exist on this Earth is to be happy and enjoy life. Or so they say.
But nobody gets sent here in this world with a manual on how to be happy or tap on the happiness more than just once in a while.
In fact, what you will most likely hear is that happiness lies within us, and we must look for it inside us.
Yes, you agree with whoever tells you that, because everyone around you agrees with it too.
But then all of those agreeable people go home, look in the mirror and ask, “Mirror, mirror on the wall..” Wait, that was another fairytale.
Let’s get back to ours.
How Do I Become a Happier Person?

In my opinion, happiness isn’t something we become. In fact, we are already happy, but finding that happy person who stays quietly in our mind is a challenge. More often than not, we end up trying to calm down the rest of the noises in our heads, such as frustration, stress, sadness, anxiety, and so on.
But who am I to tell you my opinion on how you become happier and how to make happiness a habit?
I am a happy person who has no fewer problems than you do. You could go ahead and check more about me here, but the idea is that I’ve realized reaching happiness is actually not that hard at all. All you need is the right perspective and willingness to never, ever give up.
Surprisingly, happiness is nothing more but an actual state of self-satisfaction.
And self-satisfaction is something that sounds and looks more reachable than the mysterious word “happiness.”
20 Tricks To Make Happiness a Habit
Yes, these are tricks to help ignore all the fluff in the world and focus on tapping that happiness point every day for a few times.
Here’s something funny…
We all believe that happiness excludes any types of problems but includes money and blue seas. Yet, we all agree happiness isn’t about the money but a state of mind (blue sea helps too, though).
And while we all nod our heads to both things, we also have no clue how to start and where to end, so we call ourselves happy.
If you are confused enough, we can now proceed with my 20 tricks to fake happiness until you make it…
Just joking, I truly consider myself being happy and lucky, so my very first tip for you exactly that…
1. Consider Yourself Lucky

Happy people are lucky people.
Not true!
Lucky people are happy people.
Not true at all!
Yet, there’s something remarkable about people who consider themselves lucky. They have this magical presence of assurance that everything sooner or later will go in the right direction and their problems will get solved.
More often then not they turn out to be right.
Considering yourself to be lucky doesn’t automatically means everything will be blooming flowers around you, but it will change your perspective on things. And that helps you build the habit of being happy.
2. Learn How To Be Sarcastic…
That one needs more explanation, I know.
But I am one of the most sarcastic people you could ever meet.
Sarcasm runs through my veins on an hourly basis, and I cannot emphasize how beneficial that is to my nerves. Being sarcastic means to find a reason to mock the problem, make it smaller than it is, and laugh at its face.
Being sarcastic means not taking things too seriously and doing your best to turn your life into an episode of Friends (I’m secretly in love with Chandler, don’t tell my fiance that!)
Jokes aside, find a reason to smile and laugh even when it seems impossible to do it. I promise you, just a little practice will do wonders for your mood.
3. Love Someone Intentionally

We all love… pizza, TV shows, puppies and Fridays.
But you want to find someone to love intentionally. That could be your spouse, your kids, your parents, your dog, or a flower. It all depends on your lifestyle at the moment.
The only way we can spark happiness when none is present is by gifting it to someone else. That happiness you give away comes back to you almost immediately and makes you feel loved and eager to do it again and again.
4. Add Structure To Your Days
Now, let’s get serious for a second. You need structure in your days and structure in your life.
A chaotic lifestyle cannot contribute to your happiness. Clutter and lack of organization is a serious source of anxiety and depression.
Curious how to start organizing your life in a better way? I have a very short and easy-to-follow system I share for free with my subscribers. If you’d like to get access to it, it can happen in exactly 12 seconds after you click here.
5. Stop Comparing Yourself To Others

Now, this is a no-brainer. Comparison is unhealthy in almost any form.
You truly shouldn’t care how Sherry down the road is living her life with her brand new husband, brand new Audi, and brand new holiday to that exotic place you’ve never heard of.
It doesn’t matter what other people do.
What you see on social media is just a highlight of other people’s lives. They too have just normal jobs, normal relationships, normal problems, and the same issue with comparing themselves to you, for example.
6. Compare Yourself With Your Younger Self
Yes, I said comparison isn’t healthy in almost any form. Notice the word “almost” I used.
Now, you want to be conscious when I say compare yourself with your younger self.
Making happiness a habit is also progressing in life and working on your personal, professional, and mental growth.
No, you might not be as slim as you were 15 years ago, but you weren’t as successful, experienced, and smart as you are right now.
We often focus on the thing we lost over time, but when I ask you to compare yourself to your younger self, I actually encourage you to search for that growth, for the progress and the “step ahead” you probably forgot you made.
7. Learn What Happiness Mean To You

To Sherry, happiness might mean a new car, a new husband, and a new holiday to an exotic place.
But that doesn’t mean happiness looks the same in your eyes. You probably would enjoy a holiday, but what if your dream is to raise five children or plant a huge garden.
We all call it happiness, but it looks different every time we say that word out loud. It feels different.
And the mystery is to realize what happiness means to you. It’s a unique vision only you could paint.
And talking of Happiness, take a look at this journal that will keep you focused on YOUR HAPPINESS.
8. Learn How To Stop The Time To Make Happiness A Habit
Yes, you read that one correctly. I ask you to learn to stop the time. I can do it every time I want.
I often stop the time when I’m hugging my fiance. I also love stopping the time when I am with my family. I certainly enjoy stopping the time when I’m on the beach in the summertime.
I promise, I do not have any disorders, and I mean it when I say stopping the time… almost.
The secret is to analyze the moment you are in.
Let’s say you are hugging your loved one. You want to think of this moment as the most important moment of your life. You want to notice the smell of your partner, the touch, his/her hands around you, the warmth of your bodies. You want to be as present as possible, trying to carve every second into your mind. You do it in such a way that if you are alone and want to feel his/her hug, you could bring back each one of those feelings into your mind at any point and feel it happening all over again.
Trust me, in moments like that, you truly feel like the time has stopped, and you stay in that feeling for as long as you wish.
Try stopping the time yourself.
9. Tap Into Your Creativity

Happiness is creativity. It’s creating a world in your mind or onto the canvas or the sheet of paper. It’s shaping it with your hands as a DIY project.
Doing something creative every day invites happiness into your mind and turns it into a habit.
10. See Life In Colors
We are used to claiming things as good or bad without even thinking about them for longer than 30 seconds.
But here’s the thing – even the worse criminal you’ve ever heard of had a mother, a father, probably a sister, or a brother who loved them (at some point, or they still do).
Being open to the world and seeing the colors in it is an essential skill you want to master if you search for happiness.
11. Make Happiness a Habit By Having a Vision To Work On

Yes, a vision board, a vision journal, a collage on your computer desktop, a drawing in your notebook, a poem you wrote…
Happiness turns into a habit when you work on it like you would if you’d want to develop a new habit. You breathe with that vision in mind; you are looking for it and grab every opportunity to practice it.
So, turn happiness into a vision and then into a mission. Work on it every day.
12. Have Purpose
You will most likely hear that life’s purpose is to be happy and enjoy it.
But how do you enjoy it? What gives you that spark of joy? What is your purpose? Is your life meaningful enough in your own eyes?
Finding and working on your purpose is the most perfect recipe for living a happy life.
What if you aren’t sure of your purpose? Don’t think too big. In fact, try to go back to your childhood and remember your dreams back then. Most likely, your life’s purpose is connected to your dreams from that period of time.
13. Stop Demanding More Happiness

You are already happy. Stop demanding more happiness like it’s a cheese you order in the local shop.
Happiness cannot be measured but only felt, so you can never say if you are happier now than yesterday. The reality is, you can only notice and confirm, “Yes, I am happy”.
14. Do Things That Inspire You
Do things that inspire you.
Talk on topics that inspire you.
Meet people that inspire you.
Watch movies that inspire you.
You get the point.
Inspired life is a happy life.

15. Choose Love Over Fear

If you ever have the chance to read something by Gabby Bernstein (I recommend you do), you will notice that she talks of choosing love over fear a lot.
Happiness and love cannot exist where fear rules. Fear leaves every place where love is chosen.
When in doubt of taking a decision, choosing a path, or doing something out of your comfort zone, ask yourself, “Is that an act of love or an act of fear?”
You might be surprised how many times just asking this simple question makes the decision and the direction so clear.
16. Challenge Yourself To Make Happiness a Habit
If you avoid life’s challenges long enough you might end up skipping on life.
Here’s a confusion I think we all suffer from: life isn’t meant to be easy and comfortable.
Why would we be here if not to learn, experience, and evolve? Do you see any other reason?
To be happy?
Yes. But is happiness possible without evolving into a happy person?
Would we know the days exist if there weren’t nights to split the days?
Don’t run away from the challenges in your life. Keep your chin up and look at them as opportunities and a necessary step to get to a better state of mind and life.
17. Care Less For Others

Yeah, I know I will have to explain that one as well.
Let’s talk about Sherry… with the new husband, the new car and so on.
Why do we even talk about her?
You want to care less about how Sherry lives her life because I can guarantee she most likely doesn’t care how you live yours, and that’s okay.
Gossiping and sticking our noses into other people’s lives and social media profiles isn’t bringing us closer to happiness.
We either end up “realizing” how miserable our life looks at that point, or we get full of ourselves because it looks like we’re the best.
Of course, none of those are true, and I might be exaggerating… or not.
18. You Are Not Ok or Fine
You are not “Fine!”
I learned that one from my fiance. You know that question everyone asks, but nobody cares to hear the answer – “Hey! How are you? … You okay?” My fiance always answers, “I feel excellent!”
Even if he just had a bad day, he would still say the same thing. And that answer usually surprises people. Everyone expects we’re “fine” or “okay”… But nobody actually listens to those. However, if you say you feel “extraordinary,” “excellent,” and “awesome,” that sparks curiosity in others.
What’s more important, though, it works on your brain too, and over time you feel more and more “excellent” and “awesome”.
And that, my Friend, is how you develop the habit to be happy.
19. Practice Gratitude

It wouldn’t be me if I don’t mention gratitude at least once in a blog post.
Yes, because it’s the main star of the project, “how to make happiness a habit”. Gratitude is about understanding that what we have is enough, and we need nothing more to fill fulfilled.
Gratitude is confirmation we are happy, right now.
20. Connect The Little Happiness Dots
Too often we confuse happiness with a state of being that lasts forever.
But the truth is happiness has its peaks and lows. And unless you connect those two, you won’t be able to build the habit of being a happy person.
What do I mean?
When you receive good news, you are happy, and that’s very noticeable. But once the hype is gone, you will most likely go back to your normal “I want to be happy” state of mind.
Okay, but what surprises me is that five minutes ago you were actually happy, and now you are reading how to turn happiness into a habit.
Connecting and noticing the little joyous moments of the day won’t increase your happiness level. In fact, your happiness levels won’t change. But you will feel more content because you notice you are happier. Does that make any sense? I bet it doesn’t.
Here’s the thing.
Happiness is what you make out of yourself today, at this moment. It’s not where you live or what you work. It certainly doesn’t depend on what type of car you drive and if you have a car at all.
It’s who you choose to be right now. It’s about searching and creating the chain of positivity long enough so you make happiness a habit you can’t get rid of.
