How To Get Busy and Productive Without Getting Out Of Your Chair
You desire to be mega-ultra-maxi productive. However, your reality fits into different kinds of words: lazy, bored, mushy, and meh.
No worries. I feel like that most of the time, yet I manage to work on my online business, and we often have cooked meals at home.
But let’s talk about you.
How do we boost your productivity if you aren’t willing to get out of that chair/sofa underneath you?
Today you will learn about 50 new ways to get productive, have fun, expand your world and get some seriously important things done from your computer (or laptop).
I will tell you about some productive things to do on the internet, but also, if you don’t want to be online, there are plenty of things to do offline too.
50 Productive Things To Do On Your Computer

1. Research a side hustle
It’s time to see how to make some much-needed extra cash. You know it’s been on your mind for a while, but you were struggling to come up with ideas. Now would be the right time to find at least 10 different ways to have a side hustle.
2. Research a business idea
Or you’re thinking of starting your own business. Check the competition. Brainstorm product ideas, tips, and tricks to make it work. Are you aware of all the documentation you might need once you decide to open it? Check that too.
3. Fun facts
You could also browse some fun facts. That will relieve much of your stress. Next time you get together with your friends, you will also be the smart guy in the room who knows tons of things, even though nobody talks to him.
4. Organize your Download folder
I know you preferred I didn’t write this one here. You also might pretend you didn’t read it. However, your Downloads folder is a huge mess with hundreds of unsorted files, photos, and zip folders… how long are you going to ignore it?
5. Organize you other folders
I still like you, pinky promise! Now, go ahead and organize your folders. Delete old ones, create new ones if needed. Store files where it’s logical to be stored.

Productive Ways to Spend Your time In Front Of The Computer

6. Delete stuff
Yes, empty your trash folder along with all unnecessary files in it.
7. Clean your desktop
Check all of the screenshots you keep storing on your desktop. Delete the ones you don’t need (that would probably be around 95% of them) and keep your desktop as tidy as possible.
8. Clean your desk
It’s not exactly an “on the computer” type of thing to do, but it is productive and also needed. Remove all the crumbs from the cookies you had last Saturday, uncover the coffee mugs that are hiding behind your monitor, use your actual trash can under your desk to throw everything you need away.
9. Clean your keyboard
I hate to admit that I rarely do that, but it’s so important. If you use your keyboard for work and after work, then you must clean it daily. The amount of dirt that little thing can collect in a day is going to surprise you.
10. Look at productivity apps
Okay, we move out of the clean-this/clean-that phase, and we enter the online world. Look up some productivity apps that can help you organize your life. Here’s a simple list of my favorites:
11. Research oganizing systems
Check these top five time management systems you want to know that exist so that you quit with the excuses you never have for anything. You obviously have time now, or why you would search for productive things to do on your computer when you are bored…
12. Search for a new job
Instead of stressing over a job you hate, go ahead and find alternatives. You most likely have at least three ideas on what you’d rather do tomorrow morning than go to your workplace. Explore them.
13. Organize your Google Calendar
You might need to update your new friends’ birthdays, add events, plan exercises, or simply start using Google Calendar for the first time.
Get Creative Instead of Bored When In Front Of Your Computer

14. Watch a Skillshare class
One of the first things I did at the beginning of 2021 was to sign up for Skillshare. I went straight for the annual subscription as I didn’t want to find yet-another-excuse not to have it this year either.
Skillshare is the place where you learn…well, new skills. It’s packed with productivity, art, drawing, photography, and every other type of classes you might be interested in. See my first 5 recommendations for you here. If you click this link here, you will also get 14 days for free so that you could explore the platform for free starting right now.
15. Unsubscribe from bad apps
There are apps you want to have (such as Skillshare). And then there are apps you want NOT to have. Unsubscribe from everything that ruins your productivity and positive personal growth. You know what keeps you away from your best life. Go and do it now.
16. Check your bank account
Seriously, that’s something you want to do every single day; even if you receive notifications when there are any transactions.
Why?
Because staying in touch with your money and exploring your payments in detail every day slowly creates a better money mindset and gives you ideas on how to save or spend better. I worked in a bank for 10 years, and trust me, looking at bank accounts every day creates a good money mindset.
17. Make some money through surveys
There are plenty of sites out there that need your opinion on products you already use and love (or not). And they will pay you money to hear that opinion of yours. And anyway, you’re bored at home now…
More Productive Things To Do At Home On The Computer

18. Learn to touch-type
I found that term just recently and cannot wait to dive into it more. Touch-type is actually the process of improving the way you type on your keyboard. We usually use just 2 fingers on our left hand and maybe 2-3 on our right hand. That probably gives you about 60-70 typed words per minute. When you master the touch-type, you will type over 100 or even 150 words per minute. If you are using a computer for work, that’s a key skill you absolutely need.
19. Read books
Online. On your computer or laptop.
When you are bored at home and wonder what to do on your computer, why not sign up for Kindle, install their app on your laptop and start reading the books you’ve always wanted.
20. Learn keyboard combinations
Just like type-touch, keyboard combinations will improve your productivity and efficiency not only at your work but in your life a well. Jump from one screen to another without using your mouse or learn any other key combinations that will improve your time spent online.
21. Clean your email
Another dreadful thing you keep procrastinating on. But today you are bored and lazy. So why not actually clean your email inbox, empty your trash and organize important emails into folders such as “Reference emails”, “Invoices”, “Important subscriptions” and so on.
22. Send emails
You most likely need to answer a few of the emails you just sorted. Could you do it now?
23. Change passwords

If you are anything like me, you are using up to three combinations of the same password for 99% of your online accounts.
Well… umm… maybe we should try and change them at some point? I’m busy now, but you said you’re bored…
24. Master a skill
Maybe you’ve always wanted to improve your cooking or drawing skills. Browse for ideas and tricks on how to do it. Often, the best tips are the tiny ones. Find them.
25. Write in an online journal
I’m a passionate journal lover. You don’t need to know the number of journals you could have (okay, it’s 110, here they are), but if you’d prefer to have a journal and don’t like paper that much, go ahead and have an online journal.
26. Watch inspiring videos
Like you’ve never heard of this idea…
27. Make lists
Lists of projects you work on, grocery shopping list, to-do lists, gifts list, wish lists, habits lists, routines lists… you get the point.
28. Create routines
Yes, actually think and create routines and brainstorm ideas on improving your sleep or morning routine.
29. Work on projects
You don’t have to hustle on work projects, but what if you did and actually got ahead on things?
30. Watch a movie
Lol! That’s a brilliant idea, Rachel. Nobody would’ve thought of that. But yeah, you have my permission.

Didn’t go well with that movie? Still, bored at home and wonder how to spend time on your computer? Learn fast reading.
32. Shop for gifts
Birthday gifts, Christmas gifts, teachers’ gifts, partner’s gifts, mother’s day gifts, gifts for people you like, gifts for people you don’t like… Holidays and people come and go all the time. Gifts are needed. Ideas are lacking exactly when they shouldn’t. Why not using your free time and find some good gift ideas.
33. Design something
If you’re curious to create something online, I have a free design tool for you – Canva. It’s the one tool that’s simple enough for a no-designer like me to use daily. Go ahead and check all the beautiful templates they offer you here.

37. Find free printable on a subject you are curious about

38. Clean your Pinterest Boards
Yes, you have at least 10 boards with pins on topics you don’t care about anymore. Clean those boards.
39. Run updates
Oh yeah, there are a few updates you ignore in your notifications. Run them.
40. Clean your social media accounts
All those friends on Facebook that you’ve never met and you don’t care about? Cut their access to your life. Delete photos you wish you didn’t upload. Why not get rid of an account or two? It’s not such a drama to have just an account or two. If the world ends, you will notice it before they announce it on Twitter…
41. Clean your Dropbox folders
You keep piling them there, but nobody’s deleting them. Well, I guess you will have to do that then…
42. Browse inspiring quotes
Pinterest will answer your needs here. But you could also browse Etsy for some inspiring wall art that will make your room much more enjoyable.
43. Edit your LinkedIn account
Especially if you are searching for new career opportunities.
44. Start a blog
Yes, that’s modern. It’s fun. And it’s time-consuming. But it’s also rewarding.
45. Delete programs and apps from your computer
No, seriously! One of the most productive things to do on the computer when you are bored is to actually clean up some mess and throw/delete/eliminate things that clutter your computer and take from your space (not only virtual).
Make Money While Bored At Home and On Your Computer

46. Rank products
Rank products, services, stuff. Share your opinion with others and help them make the right choices.
47. Open an Etsy shop
You are good at something. What is it? Can you make money with it? Open an Etsy shop.
48. Chat with someone
Well, not just with someone, but maybe with your parents, your best friend or someone you keep forgetting to call. Why not even make a list of people you’d like to keep in touch with and then go down that list for the next few hours. You won’t be bored anymore, I promise.
49. Google Street View
Go on a virtual walk around your neighborhood, your favorite city, or another country.
50. Shut it off and go out
Why staying stiff behind the computer when you are bored? Jump up, turn the music on, dance. Or go out on a walk. See the sun, wave to the cats on your street, play with your dog. Life is beautiful. Enjoy it no matter how bored you are.
